The National Executive Board has ordered Local 1034 to turn over financial documents. The Board is notified that charges of misappropriation are punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and up to 5 years in prison.  Review the documents here.

Katz accused of improper campaign donation to Cory Booker.

Carla gave $20,800 in Local 1034 funds to Newark Mayor Cory Booker without the authorization of the membership or Executive Board.  Local 1034 has no members in Newark - but Carla did have a "close personal" relationship with him.

Local 1034 attorney Sid Lehmann directs the Staff and Executive Board NOT to cooperate with the National Union prosecutor in a memo.  He says to refer the Prosecutor to him!  He's working with the lawyer Carla has personally "retained."  Why does Carla need her own lawyer now?  Why should the Local be represented by Lehmann - the guy who used to be Carla's lawyer? (No conflict there!)  Lehmann is whining that the prosecution is in retaliation for Carla running for Vice President of the Union.  But charges were filed against Carla in October 2006 - she only decided to run in March.  It's more like Carla is running to hide from the charges.  Carla you can run - but you can't hide! We demand that the National union demand that Local 1034 cooperate!

Who We Are

We are a group of loyal Union Members who have come to question the actions of our Local President, Carla Katz, and of the Local 1034 Executive Board. 

Here are the questions we considered:

• Do you want your union president to be working for YOU and YOUR issues or distracted by her own publicity?
• Do you want your union president to work full-time for a full-time salary, or to go to law school full time while on YOUR payroll – at 100 grand per year, by the way?
• Do you want your union president to have good working relationships with all other local presidents and national staff of the organization?
• Do you like seeing your union president on the gossip pages of The New York Post?
• Do you like your union president’s ethics repeatedly questioned by citizens of this state, in the newspapers, on the radio, on television, in the workplace?

We think that Local 1034 members need a Local President who cares about the members, and whose conduct reflects positively upon the Union.  We think that Local 1034 members need a Local Executive Board that watches our dues money.  We think that our dues should not be going for:

1) Lawyers and lawsuits to protect Carla Katz's secret emails during Contract Negotiations;

2) Lavish dinners and alcohol with politicians;

3) Pay for Carla Katz while she is in law school;

4) Hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to politicians - that no one approved (and no members even know about!)

This website will give you the details of what has secretly been going on at Local 1034 and we hope will help to be a catalyst for change.  It's time that Local 1034 Members Came First!
